Sapphires – The Gemstone of the Heavens
Sapphires belong to the corundum group and, after diamonds, are one of the hardest gemstones in the world (Mohs 9). Their intense blue color is caused by traces of titanium and iron – but sapphires are available in almost every color of the spectrum.
Origin & Quality The most sought-after sapphires come from Sri Lanka (Ceylon), Myanmar (Burma), Kashmir, and Madagascar. Kashmiri sapphires, with their velvety cornflower blue, are particularly considered the ultimate standard.
