Sapphires – The Gemstone of the Heavens
Sapphire belongs to the corundum group and, after diamond, is one of the hardest gemstones in the world (Mohs 9). Its intense blue color is caused by traces of titanium and iron – but sapphires come in almost all colors of the spectrum.
Origin & Quality The most sought-after sapphires originate from Sri Lanka (Ceylon), Myanmar (Burma), Kashmir, and Madagascar. Kashmiri sapphires, with their velvety cornflower blue, are especially considered the gold standard.
